Custer State Park is home to one of the largest herds in the country. Nearly 1,350 roam free in the foothills of the park’s 71,000 acres. Approximately 450 bison make their home in the Badlands National Park’s Wilderness area of Sage Creek. And Wind Cave National Park is s believed to be the home of one of only seven free-roaming and genetically pure herds on public lands in North America.
