The Spirit of America Gala

The Spirit of America Gala, like Mount Rushmore, celebrates the best of what this country has to offer. And what could be more American than baseball? Baseball was a favorite pastime of the carvers of Mount Rushmore. In fact, Gutzon Borglum may have hired workers specifically because they were good ball players. The recruiting paid off and in 1938 and 1939 the Rushmore team made it to the state tournament.
This year’s featured speaker is Pulitzer Prize-winning columnist George F. Will. A true baseball enthusiast, Mr. Will will hit it out of the park with stories about America’s favorite pastime, and how it parallels American culture! Rounding out our lineup, long-time Minnesota Twins announcer Dick Bremer will take on the role of emcee for the evening.
