SUMMARY:Naturalization Ceremony Returns to Mount Rushmore
DESCRIPTION:The United States District Court for the District of South Dakota will hold a Naturalization Ceremony at Mount Rushmore National Memorial on Monday\, June 21\, at 11 am in which approximately 50 people will become new American citizens. The ceremony will be held in the Amphitheater and is sponsored by the Mount Rushmore Society. The last time a Naturalization Ceremony was held at Mount Rushmore was in 2018. \nUnited States District Judge Jeffrey L. Viken will preside and give remarks. Representatives of the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota\, the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS)\, and an Ellsworth Air Force Base Honor Guard will participate in the ceremony. \nThe Dakota Choral Union will perform. Additionally\, Mount Rushmore National Memorial’s Superintendent Michelle Wheatley\, Mount Rushmore Society President Aaron Galloway\, and the USCIS District 32 Director David M. Douglas will make special presentations to the new citizens. \nFollowing the ceremony\, Pennington County Auditor Cindy Mohler will be available for voter registration on the Grand View Terrace. Registration will be open to all eligible South Dakota voters\, not just those from Pennington County. \nThe public is invited to attend this celebration of citizenship. The ceremony is free. There is a $10 parking fee per car.

DESCRIPTION:On December 4\, 1919\, South Dakota became the 21st state to ratify the 19th amendment. To celebrate this historic event\, we are inviting suffragettes (and “suffragents”) to board the bus with us to Pierre on December 11th.  \n\n\n\nWe will travel to the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre to view two exhibits\, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment. \n\n\n\nThe first exhibit is titled “Rightfully Hers\,” a pop-up exhibit from the National Archives which explores the history of the ratification of the 19th Amendment\, women’s voting rights before and after 1920 and its impact today. \n\n\n\nThe second exhibit is “The Right is Ours: Women Win the Vote.” This display traces the history of the suffrage movement and its leaders from 1848-1920. \n\n\n\nTo finish the day\, we will tour “Christmas at the Capitol\,” an extravagant display of over 100 Christmas trees filling the halls of this beautiful building. \n\n\n\n$50 registration fee includes transportation\, exclusive tours and private lunch at the South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center. \n\n\n\nItinerary for December 11\, 2019:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n7 am\nMeet at 830 Main Street to board the bus to Pierre\n\n\n7:30 am\nDepart for Pierre\n\n\n11:30 am\nArrive at South Dakota Cultural Heritage Center for exclusive tours and private lunch\n\n\n2 pm\nDepart for “Christmas at the Capitol”\n\n\n5 pm\nDepart for Rapid City\n\n\n7:30 pm\nArrive back to Rapid City
